Cup-a-Joe, Raleigh
A few weekends back, my friend Nick moved to town. After a morning of unpacking and returning his moving van, we headed to Hillsborough St in Raleigh, where the ‘cool kids’ come to hang out, at Cup-a-Joe.
This remains one of the last smoker-friendly cafes in this area. On that side of the cafe, a cloud hangs over 20-somethings and a table of gamers who puff and sip to their hearts content.
When I first started teaching, this was my go-to coffee shop. A triple latte from these folks and a quick second-hand buzz, and I was on my way to teach the youth of America with full gusto!
Today, we went for basic coffee, black. Nick, being a coffee man, orders his coffee with a shot of espresso while he waits. I’ve seen this trick with coffee connoisseurs before. However, Nick was unimpressed with his shot.
I, on the other hand was delighted with my coffee, pure, simple, with a hint of Camel Lights. Mmmmm, tastes like 20 all over again.
